We have Port Progreso at 30minutes from our location, there are only containers to Miami and to New Orleans But a 20 feet container holds 5000 hammocks
The idea of a truck is not good because the USA border is about 36 hours from where we are.
We found that the best way for orders with less than 150 kilograms ( or about 100 - 120 pieces ) is Federal Express. Because they have a door to door service. They give us 30% of discount, they clear customs, and we can track your order over the internet www.fedex.com/mx.
Let FedEx do all the importation job. ( We make all the exportation papers from Mexico ).
In orders over 150 kilograms we recommend to use a specific airline according where you live.The rate is cheaper than FedEx, but there are expenses and job to do. For instance, here we need to hire a broker to export your hammocks, costs about $150 US per exportation, you will need to pick your hammocks at your nearest airport and you will have to clear customs in your country. In some countries like USA you will have to hire a broker.
American Airlines or Continental to USA. have rates of about $2.5 US per kilogram. The cheapest is one of about $1 US per kilo, sending more than 500 kilograms.
Lufthansa, LTU. Brithis Airways and American Airlines to Europe. With final rates of about $3 US per kilogram.
Korean Air and Continental to Asia with final rates of about $3.5 US per kilogram.
In USA thanks to the North American Free Trade agreement our hammocks do not pay any custom tax.
We have the same NAFTA with Canada, but our hammocks pay 12% of duty tax there.
Mexico has just signed a Free Trade Agreement with Europe. Will be on this July 1st./2000. In the past the duty tax was 18% making the Form A or Certificated of origin.
Mexico also has free trade agreements with Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Israel, Venezuela, Colombia and starting the year 2001 with Guatemala and Honduras.

Over 45 kilograms the rate decrease to $3.70 US per each kilogram.

From 10 to 21 kgs. The rate is $6.70 US per kilogram.
From 21 to 44 kgs the rate is $5.90 US per kilogram
Over 45 kilograms the rate decrease to $5.30 US per each kilogram.
To ASIA, is 25% more expsnive than to EUROPE
TO CENTRAL AMERICA is 20% more expensive than USA.
To AFRICA, MIDDLE EAST OR FAR AWAY COUNTRY the most expensive rate is $12. US per kilogram.
